I'd been a healer for over twenty years, and I couldn't heal myself.
This is the story of how I found my way back to my body β and why I built the thing I couldn't find anywhere else.
It started long before I knew what it was.
My weight gain started at fifteen, the year my grandma died.
At seventeen, I stopped feeling safe in the one place in the world I was supposed to feel safe β my home. My family was no longer safe. But I didn't know it.
What I knew was my body. And my body was a roller coaster. I literally went up and down, and up and down, and up and down for over twenty years. Close to three hundred different approaches. Nearly two hundred different diets, supplements, exercise programs, cleanses and lifestyle plans. Therapy, workshops, hypnotism, energy work, breathwork, affirmations, discipline.
And every single time it didn't last, I filed it away as more proof. That I was the problem. That I just wasn't trying hard enough. That something was wrong with me.
Nothing was wrong with me. I had never felt safe.
The accident that changed everything.
The only answer was when I finally, accidentally, at thirty-seven years old, discovered that all along I had never felt safe. Not in my home. Not in my own body. That's what my body had been holding on to the whole time.
And when my body finally felt safe enough to let it go, I got my body back.
Not by trying harder. Not by restricting more. By letting my body feel safe.
I knew more about bodies than my training.
I went through graduate training in Somatic Psychology. I went for a year. I realized that I knew more about bodies than my training, and I didn't need a degree. The program focused on one-on-one therapy, and I wanted to impact hundreds, if not thousands of people at a time.
After I left the program, I traveled around the world experimenting and teaching what I knew. One of my PhD professors saw what I was doing all over the world and reached out to me to ask me if I could teach her what I knew.
I was born seeing what other people can't see. I can feel where a body is holding something, what it's holding, and why. Over twenty years, more than 21,700 bodies β Fortune 500 CEOs, Hollywood actors, New York Times bestselling authors, women at their kitchen tables β and the same truth, every single time.
When a woman's body feels safe, it lets go.
Then my body tested me again.
A few years ago, I was going through menopause and I didn't know it. I thought I was having a complete breakdown, a midlife crisis and a full embodied collapse that dropped me to my knees. Daily panic attacks. Fifteen pounds around my belly, as if it happened overnight. Brain fog. I felt like a complete fraud. I had no idea how to get back to the woman who was driven, determined, resilient and creative.
Nine months. Twenty-five thousand dollars. Nothing worked.
One afternoon, curled up on the floor in a puddle of tears, my son looked me dead in the eyes and said, "Mommy, I don't think you are okay."
I dropped to the floor and did three somatic moves, and in ten minutes, I felt relief for the first time in nine months. I didn't know it would heal my symptoms. I just knew it made me feel BETTER and I wanted more.
Within seven days, my panic attacks stopped. Within a month, the majority of my symptoms had subsided. After ninety days, without any effort, the weight melted off.
It was like this lightbulb moment. The majority of my symptoms dissolved when I focused on regulating my nervous system.
That day wasn't my breakdown. It was my breakthrough.
Why I built Somatic Freedom.
A woman's body changes and transforms when she feels safe. That's the whole difference, and almost no one was ever told it.
Men thrive in challenge, given a plan, a protocol, a schedule. Women thrive when they feel safe, seen, heard and held. And for most of my life, and most of the lives of the women who find me, we were handed solutions built for a body that wasn't ours.
So I took simple somatic movements, nervous system regulation and twenty-plus years of intuitive body healing, and I built the thing I couldn't find anywhere: a way for a woman to release what her body has been holding, without talking about it, without reliving it, without having to understand it first. Ten minutes a day. On her own floor. For the rest of her life.
This is body. This is revolution. This is evolution.
